Johnson (Wendfeldt), Kathleen.  Born 8/18/47.  Died 9/25/08.

Kathleen Marie 'Kate' (Johnson) Wendfeldt, 61, of San Diego, Calif., devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, entered eternal life on Sept. 25, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Duluth on Aug. 18, 1947 to George H. and Irene Johnson, she grew up in West Duluth.

A 1965 graduate of Denfeld High School (with highest honors), she was academic scholar at UMD, graduating in three years with a BS Degree and Teaching Certificate (with highest honors). She married The Rev. Stephen Wendfeldt March 29, 1969. They have two daughters Heather and Holly born in 1970 and 1972. They have lived in Minnesota, Florida, Washington, North Carolina and California.

Kate began her working career as a Technical Writer with IBM in Rochester, Minn. She also worked as a church administrator, newspaper editor, High School teacher and paralegal. In 1985 she was named the National Outstanding Technical Writer. Recently she completed a book on The Saints, for publication in 2009. She was a voracious reader, reading six to eight books a week, believing learning to be a most honorable venture.

For over 30 years, she was called to serve her Lord and community. She was tireless in her efforts, as a nursing home worship leader, Sunday School teacher and director, church musician and director, accomplished pianist and flutist, church librarian, volunteering in clothing and feeding ministries, leading prayer groups, retreats, and mentoring many in their faith journeys. She was a woman of profound faith, committed to prayer, a devoted member of the Daughters of the King and PEO. Never seeking recognition, she was always a servant. Her true joy and life work was serving her family, especially her grandchildren. She often said that with their births, she found what God had prepared her life for. Nothing gave her greater joy and they all have been blessed by her. The fullness of Kate's life is often sought for but seldom achieved. Her generosity and abundant joy touched all who knew and loved her and made our lives rich and full. We will miss you, dearest one.

Kate is survived by her husband, daughters, Heather Wilson (Carl) of Vancouver, Wash., Holly Locke (Greg) of Canton, Mich.; grandchildren, Paige, Hannah, Ethan, Tanner, Landon, and her father George Johnson of Duluth.
