Welhaven, Chester.  Born 1/21/46.  Died 2/2/05.  Chester Knute Welhaven, 59, of Duluth and Barnes, Wis., died peacefully in St. Luke's Hospital with his family at his side. Chet was born in Duluth to Ralph and Anna (Naslund) Welhaven. Chet graduated from Denfeld High School and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 137, and the Teamsters Retirees. He worked for many years at Duluth Spring and eventually retiring from the DTA as a bus driver in 1994. He was an avid golfer. His love and dedication was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. One of his passions was to watch and feed deer at their Barnes lake home. Chet married Betty Carlson in Duluth in 1979. Chet is preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Bob Young. Surviving is his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Patti (David) Katoski and Penny (Ken) Schramm and a son, Allen (Jennifer) Young all of Duluth; grandchildren, Katie and Kelly Katoski and Alyssa Allen; two brothers, Ron (Judy) Welhaven of Barnes and Texas and Dennis Welhaven of Duluth; and a sister, Barb O'Donovan of St. Paul, Minn.; a family friend, Sean Mayberry; nieces, nephews and all his special friends.
