Fredrickson, Jim.  Born 2/25/47.  Died 7/23/18.

James “Jim” Fredrickson, of Austin, TX and Steamboat Springs, CO, passed away at the age of 71. He was born in Duluth, MN, where he spent his teenage years as captain of his high school hockey team.  Jim received his B.B.A. and M.B.A. from Wake Forest University and went on to earn his Ph.D. at the University of Washington. While there, he met the love of his life, Linda (Dietrich) Fredrickson, and they married on May 29, 1982.

Throughout his life, Jim was a highly regarded business professor, specializing in strategic management. He served as a faculty member at Pittsburg University, Columbia University, and most recently as chairman of the Management Department at the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business. During his career, Jim received over 20 awards recognizing his teaching excellence. He also provided extensive consulting and executive education experiences to major companies around the world.

When not working, Jim spent much of his free time in Steamboat Springs, CO, where he was a board member of The Ranch Condominiums. He loved to ski, hike, fish, and appreciate the wildlife with his family. Jim was also an avid cyclist and Longhorn football fan. His funny, compassionate, wise presence in the lives of his friends and family will be greatly missed.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elsie Fredrickson, and sister, Carol Schautz. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Fredrickson, of Austin, and his daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Brian Ricter, also of Austin.

A celebration of life will take place at the University Catholic Center in Austin, TX on August 18th at 2:00 PM. Attendees are invited to share a special memory of Jim at the service. A reception at UT’s McCombs School of Business will follow. If you plan to attend, please refer to the Facebook event for updates and to RSVP.
